About career coaching for project managers

The Confident PM career coaching services for project managers are targeted at helping develop the confidence, authority and executive presence required to succeed at a senior level.

Empowering them to enhance their leadership skills, communicate effectively, and navigate complex organisational dynamics.

If you’ve started to wonder…

  • Why your confidence feels more fragile now you’ve reached a senior level

  • Why you still second-guess decisions even though you know how to deliver

  • Whether dealing with stakeholder politics and competing priorities is simply “part of the job”

  • Why senior stakeholders can still feel intimidating

  • How you’re supposed to delegate when everything feels slightly out of control

  • Why you carry responsibility without always having the authority to match

  • Why you work hard yet visibility remains frustratingly low, with promotion feeling just out of reach

  • Whether you’re truly leadership material or just good at keeping things moving

  • Who you can talk to about the pressures you can’t easily share with your team or peers

  • Whether this constant stretch and self-doubt is simply what Project Management life looks like

You are not alone.

These questions often appear at the point where capable project managers begin stepping into real leadership.

1:1 coaching provides a confidential space to step back, reflect, and develop the clarity and confidence needed to lead with greater ease and impact.

Confident Businesswoman

Dave's Background

I’m David, a senior technology delivery leader with over 25 years’ experience leading complex global programmes and building high-performing PMO and Professional Services teams. I’ve worked at Executive and Board level across the UK, Europe, Asia Pacific and North America, leading multi-million-pound portfolios and navigating the realities of high-stakes delivery.

Alongside running global teams of 100+ practitioners, I’ve coached and developed Project and Programme Managers stepping into more senior roles, often at the point where confidence wobbles, stakeholder politics intensifies, and the pressure quietly increases.

I’m also the author of "The Unfortunate Project Manager’s Guide", a book that explores the gap between project management theory and the human realities that shape delivery. Through real-world scenarios, it highlights the challenges project managers face beyond methodology; the people dynamics, leadership expectations and everyday pressures that rarely appear in the textbooks.

My coaching is grounded in real-world leadership experience. I understand what it’s like to carry accountability, manage competing demands, and still be expected to project certainty. I work with PMs who want to lead with greater clarity, confidence and calm to build a sustainable, fulfilling career in the process.

First Coaching Session - "Getting to Know You" - 30 minutes

This introductory session focuses on understanding your current role, professional context, and the goals or challenges you would like support with. Together we explore where you are in your career, what pressures or opportunities you may be experiencing, and what you would like to move toward.

The aim is to build a clear picture of your situation so we can identify where coaching will add the most value and begin shaping the focus of future sessions. The conversation is flexible and client-led, allowing space to explore what feels most relevant for you.

Second Coaching Session - "Goal Development & Action Planning" - 1 hour

In this session we focus on clarifying and developing your goals while identifying practical steps to begin moving towards them. Building on insights from our first session, we review any reflections or progress so far and explore what has worked well, what may have been challenging, and any new perspectives that have emerged.

Together we begin to translate your goals into realistic and achievable actions, creating a clearer sense of direction and momentum for the coaching journey ahead.

Third Coaching Session and Beyond - "Delving Deeper into Your Goals" - 1 hour

From the third session onwards, the focus shifts to exploring your goals in greater depth and refining the practical steps needed to achieve them. We review progress, reflect on challenges, and build on the learning and insights gained from previous sessions.

These sessions are designed to strengthen your clarity, confidence, and commitment to your goals while continuing to identify practical next steps that move you forward.

Each session remains flexible and responsive to your needs, ensuring the coaching stays focused on what is most valuable for you at that stage of your journey.
